Knitting Stitch: English Mesh Lace Stitch Tutorial
Eventually, we’ll always go back to laces and eyelets. This is the tutorial for the English Mesh Lace Stitch, a lace stitch that is so elegant when paired with fine mohair (as we show you here below) or cashmere, but also cotton or wool yarns for a more defined look.
- 6 mm / US 8 knitting needles (we used our Beechwood Knitting Needles) – you can choose the right needle size adjusting to your yarn and tension

What knitting techniques you need to know?
- Knit
- Purl
- Yarn over
- Decreases: knit 2 stitches together, SKP (slip, knit, pass over), SK2P (slip, knit 2 together, pass over)
How to knit the English Mesh Lace Stitch
Cast on a multiple of 6 + 7 stitches.
Row 1 [RS = right side]:
- *Knit 1 stitch, yarn over, 1 SKP (slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 stitch, pass the slipped stitch over the knit stitch), knit 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together, yarn over*.
- Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. Knit the last stitch.
Row 2 [WS = wrong side] and following even rows:
Purl rows.
Row 3:
- *Knit 1 stitch, yarn over, knit 1 stitch, 1 SK2P (slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 2 stitches together, pass the slipped stitch over the K2Tog), knit 1 stitch, yarn over*.
- Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. Knit the last stitch.
Row 5:
- *Knit 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together, yarn over, knit 1 stitch, yarn over, 1 SKP*.
- Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. Knit the last stitch.
Row 7:
- Knit 2 stitches together, knit 1 stitch, yarn over, knit 1 stitch, yarn over, knit 1 stitch, *1 SK2P, knit 1 stitch, yarn over, knit 1 stitch, yarn over, knit 1 stitch*.
- Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. End with 1 SKP.
Continue knitting repeating Rows 1 – 8.
