Fancy Knitting Stitch: the Mock Honeycomb Stitch

Here we are with yet another easy and eye-catching fancy knitting stitch (as you know, our favourite kind 😄): the Mock Honeycomb Stitch, with its raised geometrical design on a Stocking Stitch base.

The Mock Honeycomb Stitch is a knitting stitch that creates a super eye-catching raised geometrical design on a Stocking Stitch foundation. To create the raised lines, you need to slip stitches purl-wise, on the wrong side of the work. This stitch is perfect to give structure to jute accessories, and to make home-decor objects like blankets.

Mock Honeycomb Stitch Tutorial

Cast on a multiple of 4 + 3 stitches.

Rows 1 and 3:
  • *Knit 3 stitches, 1 slip stitch on the right side (slip 1 stitch purl-wise, holding the yarn behind the left needle)*.
  • Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. End with 3 knit stitches.
Rows 2 and 4:
  • Purl 3 stitches, *1 slip stitch on the wrong side (slip 1 stitch purl-wise, holding the yarn in front of the left needle), purl 3 stitches*.
  • Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
Row 5:
  • Knit row.
Row 6:
  • Knit 3 stitches, *purl 1 stitch, knit 3 stitches*.
  • Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
Rows 7 and 9:
  • *Knit 1 stitch, *1 slip stitch on the right side, knit 2 stitches*.
  • Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. End with 1 knit stitch, 1 slip stitch on the right side, 1 knit stitch.
Rows 8 and 10:
  • Purl 1 stitch, 1 slip stitch on the wrong side, purl 1 stitch, *purl 2 stitches, 1 slip stitch on the wrong side, purl 1 stitch*.
  • Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
Row 11:
  • Knit row.
Row 12:
  • Knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch, *knit 2 stitches, purl 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch*.
  • Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

 

Repeat Rows 1 – 12 until your piece is the length your project requires.

Mock Honeycomb Stitch Chart

The Mock Honeycomb Stitch is an easy knitting stitch chart. The design you get is a geometrical pattern that looks like the surface of a honeycomb. The lines of each hexagon shape are given by slipping stitches purl-wise. This chart is set up on a multiple of 4 + 3 stitches and 12 rows.
