Crochet Stitch: Raised Zig Zag Stitch Tutorial
Looking for a crochet stitch to make home decor accessories? You can give the Raised Zig Zag Stitch a try to create blankets, pillowcases and so many more items for your home. This stitch is quite textured, which makes it perfect for bags and purses too. Geometrical designs lovers: this one’s for you!
To get the swatch you see in the picture above, we used:
- 4 mm / US G6 Beechwood Crochet Hook
- Woolpaca yarn (the softest Wool and Baby Alpaca yarn!) in the color Sun

Raised Zig Zag Stitch tutorial
Cast on a multiple of 4 + 2 stitches.
Round 1:
- Ch. 3 (they replace the 1st dc.), skip 5 ch. from the hook, 1 dc. in each of the following 3 ch., 1 trc. in the 5th skipped ch. (moving the hook in front of the 3 dc. you’ve just made), *4 sts. crossing to the left A (skip 1 ch., 1 dc. in each of the following 3 ch., 1 trc. in the skipped ch.)*.
- Repeat from * to * until the end of the round. End with 1 dc. in the last ch.
Round 2:
- Ch. 3 (they replace the 1st dc.), *4 sts. crossing to the right (skip the trc. from the previous round, 1 dc. each of the following 3 dc., then, moving the hook behind the 3 dc. you’ve just made, 1 trc. in the skipped trc.)*.
- Repeat from * to * until the end of the round. End with 1 dc. in the 3rd ch. at the beginning of the round.
Round 3:
- Ch. 3 (they replace the 1st dc.), *4 sts. crossing to the left B (skip the trc. from the previous round, 1 dc. each of the following 3 dc., then, moving the hook in front of the 3 dc. you’ve just made, 1 trc. in the skipped trc.)*.
- Repeat from * to * until the end of the round. End with 1 dc. in the 3rd ch. at the beginning of the round.
Continue repeating Rounds 2 and 3.
